Operators across the globe love the L-39.
The aircraft has become the companion of thousands of pilots on a daily basis. And just like you don’t like to see your companion in the hospital for too long, operators and pilots do not like to part from their “Albatrosses“ for a long period of maintenance or a major upgrade.
For this reason, the transition from the L-39 to the re-engined L-39 and subsequently to the fully modernized L-39NG with the new airframe, engine and systems has been designed to take place as efficiently as possible in order to minimize the grounding time of the aircraft. The re-engining of the L-39 will take between 3-4 months, which is less than the general overhaul of most competing jet aircraft.
That’s what we call a smooth transition!
Designed as a trainer in first row, the L-39NG can do more than you would have thought possible…
The L-39NG may well be the first jet you will ever fly. Like your first car or first motorbike, you will love it from the moment you first climb aboard, as hundreds of thousands of pilots trained on its predecessor – the L-39 – do. Based on the heritage of the L-39 with over five million flight hours, 45 military operators and almost fifty years of service, the L-39NG is the perfect trainer suitable for deployment anywhere.
Advanced training is the crucial phase of pilot preparation when it comes to selecting combat pilots. The L-39’s superb handling characteristics keep the focus where it should be, on the mission, allowing the best of each pilot´s skills to be brought to the fore. The full range of advanced training missions can be flown, including the delivery of real weapons. After the training is done, there stands a pilot fit for any of the latest combat aircraft, armed with experience and ready to fly.
The L-39NG is capable of carrying cannon pods, unguided air-to-ground rockets, guided air-to-ground missiles and free fall or laser guided bombs. This broad range of weapons makes the aircraft an incredibly capable platform for wide variety of light attack missions, especially in co-operation with ground based Forward Air Controllers.
Equipped with both cannon and air-to-air missiles, L-39NG may well be used for air policing missions across the globe. This makes it the ideal aircraft for intercepting low and slow flying targets. Due to its high commonality and compatibility with the 4/4+ generation of fighters, the L-39NG is an ideal partner for supersonic jets during combined operations.
The L-39NG can be easily configured for reconnaissance and surveillance missions. The combination of surveillance and targeting pods allow for an effective surveillance of any area of mission interest. Given the wide variety of air-to-ground missiles, rockets and bombs the L-39NG can carry, the aircraft can then deal quickly and effectively with whatever it finds.
The L-39NG is the ideal platform to deliver advanced threat simulation in a wide variety of training scenarios. With fourth generation systems on board and a wide variety of optional equipment, the L-39NG is to become one of the most modern aircraft in the world to be used in this role. The L-39NG is able to provide both a cost effective and an up to date adversary training solution for any modern air force.
The manners of human conflict are changing. From wars with clearly defined adversaries and fronts, air forces today face an enemy that is hard to spot, identify and destroy. Its ability to fly low at slow speeds with low noise and IR emissions enable the L-39NG to sneak upon the enemy unnoticed. Equipped with surveillance and targeting pods as well as NVG, it will is able to strike a decisive blow to the enemy during COIN missions.
Due to its well-mannered and predictable handling characteristics inherited from the L-39, the L-39NG is suitable for a wide variety of test and development projects. These were conducted on its predecessor by our company as the type’s OEM, as well as by many L-39 operators. A perfect example is the fact the L-39, L-59, L-139 and L-159 were powered by four different types of engine, showing clearly the adaptability of the airframe as a test and development platform.
The lithe and shark-like L-39 is a jewel of an aircraft for aerobatics. It has been selected as their preferred mount by no fewer than 15 jet demonstration teams around the world, more than any other type. Is there any better proof of the quality of an aircraft than being selected by more than dozen of world’s top aerobatic teams for wingtip to wingtip formation flying? Every year millions of spectators around the globe thrill to the precision of the pilots and the speed of our jets. Sticking to the aerodynamic concept of the L-39, the L-39NG has all the prerequisites to become just as successful and popular among aerobatic teams worldwide.
Aviation is a passion. For all those who love jet aircraft, the L-39NG is the ideal private sanctuary for enjoying the freedom of flight. Easy handling, easy maintenance, increased cost efficiency and stunning good looks – the L-39NG shares all the factors that have made its predecessor the most popular private jet in the world, with hundreds of satisfied owners on every continent!
With its deliveries to over 45 military operators and civilian operators in additional 15 countries all around the world, the L-39 is a concept that has been fielded in all climatic conditions, reaching from the icy airfields of Siberia, hot deserts of Northern Africa, dry climate of the Arabian Peninsula to the humid environment of Southeast Asia or Latin America and many more. The fact that still 700 units of the L-39 are flying all across the globe is a proof of the aircraft’s ability to adapt to the most serious climatic conditions without any impact on its performance and reliability.
But it is not only the variability of the climate that has tested the L-39. Also the level of available logistic support and infrastructure varies from customer to customer. Being a partner to most air forces operating the L-39, AERO has is able to provide its customers with first class support both at its facility as well as anywhere in the world.
The experience with the operation of the L-39 under all climatic conditions and with a variable level of available logistics and infrastructure is a unique input into the development of the L-39NG that no other manufacturer of jet training aircraft can present to its customers. There is no reason to doubt, that the L-39NG will cope with the challenges of its worldwide operation just as well as its predecessor…
The dream of every air force is to have an efficient training system that will produce highly skilled pilots in a reasonable time and at a reasonable cost. Looking at today’s training systems all across the globe, the opposite is usually the case. Instead of learning as much as possible on one aircraft that is easy and cheap to operate, cadets are forced to switch between aircraft types with every new stage of training, eventually to cost their air forces additional money by spending far too much time in the cockpit of an expensive double-seated fighter to acquire skills not provided by the training type.
The ability of the L-39NG to cover all training stages from basic training up to lead-in fighter training and even a substantial portion of training in operational conversion units gives rise to the following benefits to its operators:
- Low maintenance and operation cost (single training type)
- Decreased training time (easy and smooth transition for pilots between training stages)
- Decrease in training cost (less time spent in expensive OCU aircraft)
- Increased pilot proficiency when switching to OCUs
- Fighter aircraft less occupied by training missions and available for other deployment
Have you ever tried plugging a Russian plug into a UK socket? Most likely not. And those of you who have probably did not really succeed. We at AERO can do exactly this for our customers!
In its modern history, AERO has come a long way. While the manufacture of Soviet designed fighter aircraft MiG-15, MiG-19 and MiG-21 and jet trainers of its own design L-29 and L-39 were based purely on avionics, systems and weapons of Eastern provenience, the L-59 and L-139 already combined Eastern and Western elements. The latest from the family of AERO designed aircraft – the L-159 – is already fully equipped with Western avionics and systems fully compatible with today’s NATO standards and capable of carrying a wide variety of NATO standard armament.
Thanks to this evolution, AERO has not only acquired the ability to work with both Eastern and Western elements separately, but also to combine them safely on board of one aircraft. In a world where many air forces operate mixed fleets of Eastern and Western aircraft, this is a unique capability no other jet trainer manufacturer can demonstrate. If your air force consists of a mixed fleet, than it is no problem for us!
