Aero Introduces the L-39NG Demonstrator to the Public

Visitors to this year’s NATO Days had the unique opportunity to see AERO Vodochody AEROSPACE’s new aircraft, the L-39NG. The aircraft was on display for fans of aviation and military technology just days after its successful first flight.

The presence of the new generation of the legendary L-39 Albatros attracted not only the general public’s attention, but also that of the representatives from the Czech and international Air Forces in attendance. Representatives of the Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Polish, and Nigerian military tried out comfort of the cockpit, as did the Swedish defence minister Peter Hultqvist. Along with his Czech counterpart Martin Stropnický, Mr. Hultqvist thoroughly inspected the aircraft and listened to a short report by Aero’s factory pilot Miroslav Schützner, who flew the plane on its first flight on Monday.

The L-39NG was presented in Ostrava fully armed with axially mounted weapon pods from FN Herstal, each containing a 12.7mm machine gun. Aero presented just one of the many possible equipment variations for the future L-39NG, which with its combination of modern avionics and on-board equipment, nearly identical to that used on the most modern combat aircraft, as well as the option to use a wide range of simulated and real weapons, makes it an extremely effective training tool for pilots of modern combat aircraft. Combined with the unparalleled acquisition and operational costs, it represents the ideal solution for pilot training for both NATO and non-NATO air forces.

The L-39NG aircraft is a modern and effective trainer designed as a unified, comprehensive training system for modern air forces. The L-39NG is based on the aerodynamic concept of the current L-39 but utilizes the latest technologies and equipment. Power is provided by the highly modern FJ44-4M engine supplied with the TAP Blue engine support system to ensure unprecedented airworthiness and predictable maintenance costs. The aircraft's avionics are prepared to train future pilots of 4th and 5th generation aircraft, and can be tailored to the customer's requirements to a great extent. The L-39NG is equipped with five mounting points for weapons. The aircraft also features a broad range of simulation technologies including integration into high-tech tactical simulation centres with the goal of increasing training effectiveness.
